Mere hours after winning Event #2 and a seat into this event, Chance Kornuth leads the final six of Event #3: $4,000 No-Limit Hold’em, holding more than 30% of the chips in play.
Joining Kornuth at the final table are Joseph Cheong, Mitchell Halverson, Daniel Weinand, Nathan Zimnik, and Jesse Lonis.
The 84-entrant field created a prize pool of $336,000 and awarded the top 12 finishers with a min-cash of $13,440, which includes a seat into Event #4: $8,000 No-Limit Hold’em. The top six are guaranteed at least $20,160 and the seat but have their eyes fixed on the first-place prize of $80,640.
Falling just shy of the final six was Victoria Livschitz, who saw her tournament come to an end when she got her short stack in with king-deuce against the pocket tens of Zimnik. Livschitz failed to improve and her tournament was ended in seventh place for $16,800, which she will look to improve upon during Event #4.
Rounding out the final table of nine was Philip Shing, who finished in eighth place for $13,440 when the king-six of Kornuth held with the better kicker against his king-four in a blind vs. blind battle, and Joelle Parenteau, who made the final six of Event #2, finished in ninth place for $13,440 when her pocket queens couldn’t hold against Kornuth’s ace-seven when an ace appeared on the turn.
Others walking away with a seat into Event #4 include Ryan Riess, Jeremy Ausmus, and Michael Wang. Both Ausmus and Wang won their seat into this event by cashing in Event #2, and they will look to continue their journey up the Stairway to Millions in Event #4.
Jaime Cervantes just missed out on the cash and the seat for the second day in a row in unfortunate circumstances when he found himself all-in and at risk with his short stack holding ace-deuce against Cheong’s ten-six. Cheong rivered a straight to burst the bubble and send the players into the money.
