Daniel Weinand was down to his last 210,000 on the money bubble, but after a series of doubles, he found himself with over a million in chips, and when the final table began, he caught fire to close the night with the chip lead at 3.160 million.
Joining Weinand at the final table are Jeremy Ausmus (2.645 million), Chris Moorman (1.545 million), Jake Daniels (1.150 million), Sean Winter (1.070 million), and Brock Wilson (425,000). Wilson heads into the final table the short stack with just seven big blinds, while Weinand’s chip lead is good for 53 big blinds and accounts for 32% of the chips in play.
Event #3 of the 2022 PokerGO Cup saw 80-entrants and created a prize pool of $800,000, with the winner walking away with $200,000. The final six players have all locked up a cash of at least $48,000 but getting to the money proved to be quite the challenge as the money bubble lasted just under two hours.
Barry Hutter found himself all-in for his last 260,000, holding top pair of nines against the king-queen of Michael Wang. A queen on the turn gave Wang the superior pair, and when the river landed, a brick Hutter was eliminated in 13th place, one spot shy of the money.
Once the bubble burst, eliminations were still hard to come by, and it would take a cooler to send Jake Schindler out the door in 12th place for $16,000. With the board reading [Qc2c5s5c9c], Schindler bet 350,000 only to see Chris Moorman check-raise all-in to 1.2 million effective having Schindler covered. Schindler used three time extensions and called with ace-jack of clubs only to see Moorman table pocket queens for a full house to collect the over three million chip pot.
Shortly after that, on the first hand of level 15, Steve Zolotow and Justin Saliba were all-in and at risk holding ace-king and ace-seven respectively. Jeremy Ausmus called and tabled ace-jack, and when the board ran jack-high, Ausmus paired his kicker to eliminate both players in 10th and 11th place as they walked away with $24,000.
Meanwhile, on the other table, Event #2 Champion Sean Perry was all-in holding pocket jacks against the ace-queen of Weinand. A queen on the turn sealed Perry’s fate, and he was out the door in ninth place for $32,000.
The play slowed once again when the remaining eight players reached the final table, and it would be another hour before Scott Ball would fall in eighth place when Ausmus picked off his river bluff to send him home with $32,000 and his third cash of the 2022 PokerGO Cup.
Michael Wang navigated one of the shorter stacks in the field for much of the final three levels of the day to a seventh-place when he rang his king-queen into the ace-seven of Daniels to take home $40,000 and his first cash of the series.
Other notables to make a deep run but fall just short of the cash included, current PokerGO Tour leader Nick Petrangelo, 2019 Poker Masters Champion Sam Soverel, and high roller regulars Shannon Shorr and David Coleman.
