Jake Schindler came into the final table of Event #1: $10,000 No-Limit with the chip lead, but despite briefly losing the chip lead to Darren Elias, he would battle back and take home the $166,600 first-place prize and the trophy.
Elias wrestled the chip lead away from Schindler when he eliminated Thomas Boivin to burst the Event #1 Money Bubble and eliminated Chris Brewer in seventh place for $19,600 in consecutive hands, only to see it slip away minutes later.
Joseph Cheong was the short stack six-handed and found himself all-in for his last 365,000 holding pocket sixes against the ace-king of Elias and the pocket aces of Ali Imsirovic. A six on the river gave Cheong the triple to over a million in chips and left Imsirovic with just 150,000.
The next hand, Imsirovic would get it all in holding king-five against the pocket tens of Schindler. A ten on the flop sealed Imsirovic’s fate, and he was out the door in sixth place for $29,400.
Cheong would then eliminate Sean Winter in fifth place for $39,200 when his king-queen out kicked Winter’s queen-ten. A few hands later, Cheong would send Byron Kaverman out the door in fourth place for $53,900 when he flopped a set of sevens against Kaverman’s flopped pair of tens to send us to three-handed play.
After about a 20 minute stretch in which few flops were seen, but chips were flying around the table with shove after shove, Elias found himself all-in for his last 700,000 holding king-queen against Schindler’s pocket kings. Elias flopped a gutshot straight draw but couldn’t find one of the four jacks in the deck and was out the door in third place for $73,500.
With the knockout, Schindler came into heads-up play with over a four to one chip lead, and Cheong would never get closer than three to one in chips before finding himself all-in for his last 500,000 and at-risk holding king-seven against Schindler’s nine-eight. Cheong flopped a pair of sevens, and it looked like he found another life but an eight on the river closed the door giving Schindler the trophy and the first-place prize. Cheong walked away with $107,800 for a day’s work.
