Stephen Chidwick raised from under the gun and Rick Salomon called from the cutoff. Alex Foxen three-bet out of the big blind and was called by both Chidwick and Salomon. The flop was [tc][8s][4c] and Foxen checked. There was about 125,000 in the pot and Chidwick bet 42,000.
Salomon raised to 142,000, Foxen folded and Chidwick called. The turn was the [3s] and Chidwick checked. Salomon moved all in and Chidwick called.
It was the biggest pot of the tournament thus far with Chidwick tabling [ts][9s], good for top pair and a flush draw, against Salomon’s [9c][6c], giving him a gutshot and a different flush draw. Chidwick was the player at risk for his last 392,000, but it was nearly all of Salomon’s stack.
Salomon needed a club or a non-spade eight to win the pot, move back into the chip lead and eliminate Chidwick, but the the [4d] came on the river sent the pot to Chidwick. Salomon was left with just a few big blinds and Chidwick moved into the chip lead.
