Cary Katz Leads £100K NLH Final Table, British Poker Open Concludes Thursday on PokerGO
The final event of the 2019 British Poker Open featured the biggest buy-in of the series and when the final table returns, the biggest score of the series will be up for grabs. A dozen of the world’s best players contributed to the prize pool and when Day 1 concluded, Cary Katz was ahead of them all.
The chip leader was one of the last players to register and while it took Katz a while to get going, some timely doubles shot him up the leaderboard. The biggest pot of Katz’s night came against Matthias Eibinger, who eventually ended up bubbling tomorrow’s PokerGO stream. Katz limped, a tactic he regularly used through Day 1, and then got ace-king in against Eibinger’s jacks.
Katz spiked a king on the flop to win the flip and he stayed near the top of the counts throughout the rest of the night.
Eibinger was left short and he spent the next few levels exchanging blows with Mikita Badziakouski. The Belarusian and Austrian clashed multiple times, with Badziakouski eventually winning out. Christoph Vogelsang was also on a short stack for some of the night, but he finished on an uptick that has him above the chip average.
Ben Tollerene held nearly half the chips in play after the redraw, but he’ll return to final official final table below the average.

Matthias Eibinger Eliminated by Mikita Badziakouski
The table folded to Mikita Badziakouski and he moved all-in from the small blind. Short stack Matthias Eibinger was in the big blind and after taking a quick inventory of his chips he called.
The Austrian put his final 250,000~ at risk with [Ks4s] and Badziakouski needed to hold with [AsQd].
“Unbeatable Mikita” stayed true to form, scoring the elimination on the [QcTc6c7d2c] runout.
The elimination marks the end of Day 1. The remaining four players will return Thursday to play down to a £100,000 winner and a recap will be posted shortly.

Cary Katz Doubles Through Ben Tollerene, Takes Chip Lead
Mikita Badziakouski opened to 36,000 from the hijack and Ben Tollerene called on the button. Cary Katz came along from the big blind and then checked the [JsTd3d] flop.
Badziakouski checked as well and Tollerene bet 35,000. Katz called and the Belarusian briefly thought before he folded.
The [5s] came on the turn and after Katz checked, Tollerene shoved.
Katz was covered and he used two time banks before deciding what to do with his final 246,000.
Just before he needed to use a third, he flung a chip into the middle for a call.
Tollerene turned over [KhQd] and Katz had to fade the overs and open-ended straight draw with [Jh9d].
The [5c] paired and Katz secured the double to take the chip lead.

Christoph Vogelsang Flushes Cary Katz
Cary Katz raised to 32,000 from under the gun and both Ben Tollerene and Christoph Vogelsang called in the blinds.
The [7s8c4h] flop checked through to reveal the [Ac] on the turn.
Tollerene checked and Vogelsang bet out 60,000. Katz responded by sliding forward a stack of chips amounting to a raise of 150,000.
Tollerene folded, and Vogelsang used a time extension chip before calling.
The [2c] on the river went check, check, and Vogelsang announced a flush and tabled his [Ah4c]. Katz mucked.

Matthias Eibinger Doubles Through Ben Tollerene
Ben Tollerene opened to 32,000 from under the gun and Matthias Eibinger called in the big blind.
Eibinger checked the [AcQc6h] flop and Tollerene continued for 16,000. Quickly, the short stack check-shoved and Tollerene got a count of 92,000.
The chip leader called and while he was ahead – with [KdJd] – Eibinger had [Kc4c] for a flush draw.
The [Jh] limited Eibinger’s outs, but his flush came in on the river. The [5c] completed the board and kept the Event #10 final table five-handed.

Matthias Eibinger raised to 32,000 from under the gun and Mikita Badziakouski called in the big blind.
The flop landed [Qs9s5c] and Badziakouski check-called a bet of 25,000 as the turn landed the [Td].
Badziakouski checked and Eibinger announced a bet of 92,000. Badziakouski called, and when the river landed the [7d], both players checked.
Badziakouski tabled his [Qc7c] for two pair, and Eibinger released.
