The World Poker Tour Amsterdam Main Event final table wrapped up weeks of European action that combined the PokerStars Championship Monte Carlo, WPTDeepStacks Amsterdam and the first cross-promotional MonteDam Swing between the two brands. Daniel Daniyar bested the 224-entry field and won $166,344, his name etched on the Champions Cup and a Tournament of Champions package worth over $15,000.
“It was a very tough game and opponent heads-up [Louis Salter}”, Daniyar said to the WPT minutes after winning. “It’s very hard to go up and down in chips like how we did in heads-up, but that’s gambling. I love when you feel the adrenaline like that.”
On winning the TOC package Daniyar said, “I’ve never played in America before, I’m looking forward to going there for the WPT Tournament of Champions. Maybe it’s a good tradition or omen that former Amsterdam winner, Farid Yachou, has gone on to win the WPT Tournament of Champions.”
The final table saw Daniyar and Jans Jansma as the far and away chip leaders over the reaming four players. On the first hand of play Rozema shoved on the button with 7c 5c and Daniyar called with king queen. He caught a king on the flop and right out of the gate the table was five-handed.
An orbit later Jorn Watlhaus was all in with an ace preflop and Daniyar called again with king queen. The board ran Daniyar’s way and he made a king-high straight and sent a second player to the rail
Walthaus’ seat wasn’t cold yet before Shyngis Satubayev was all in preflop with Kh 6d and Salter called with As 8s. The board ran Ac 9d 4d Kd 9s and two pair sent Satubayev to stand in line at the cashier’s cage behind Walthaus.
Two and half hours passed before Jansma lost his start of the day chip lead, grew short-stacked and moved in preflop with pocket kings. Danisyar called with 6s 3s, after starting the raising war and then the board ran his way giving him a full house to crack Jansma’s kings.
Daniyar and Salter exchanging the lead a few times during heads-up play, but ultimately it was a post-flop confrontation with Salter’s pocket kings to Daniyar’s Ah 8h on a board of Jd Th 6h. The board finished Tc 3h, giving Daniyar a flush and a large lead.
Salter got it all in on the next hand with jack-high, Daniyar called with ace-rag and the board ran dry for Daniyar to win the title.
[Editor’s Note] – Daniel Daniyar had been misreported all week as Daniel Danivar and was only revealed by Daniyar after the tournament completed.
On the West Coast, WPTDeepStacks is at the Turlok Poker Room in Central California as a primer for the upcoming WPT500 Los Angeles at the Gardens Casino May 21 -31 that has a $1 million guarantee for a $565 buy-in.
