The day started with 12 players spread out across two tables and Manig Loeser started out by doubling through Koray Aldemir right off the bat. Giuseppe Iadisernia, however, was the first player to get eliminated when he ran into Mike Watson’s aces. Watson continued to push players as he also busted Stephen Chidwick, Koray Aldemir, and Barry Shulman in the early goings of the event.
After the dinner break, Steve O’Dwyer, Elio Fox, Danny Tang, Alex Foxen, and Chin Wei Lim entered the event to bring the eventual total to 26 entries creating a prize pool of £260,000.
Shortly after registration closed, Sam Soverel, the current High Roller of the Year leader was eliminated by a surging Sam Grafton. Soverel shoved on the turn with top pair and the nut flush draw only to run into Grafton’s top set.
Grafton’s ascent continued when he ran his kings into Mike Watson’s aces with the board bringing four diamonds to give him a winning flush. This pot put Grafton at 780,000 with 2.6 million in play and still 13 players remaining.
Danny Tang, Jake Schindler, Elio Fox, and Manig Loeser busted in quick succession to bring the field down to its final table of nine lead by the aforementioned Grafton. Cary Katz was the first to bust at the final table followed by former GPI No.1 Alex Foxen.
In seventh place, the current No.1 in the world, Stephen Chidwick hit the rail. Chidwick found himself all in with ace-queen versus Mike Watson’s queens to bring the field down to just six.
On the final hand of the night, Chin Wei Lim shoved his last 116,000 into the middle with ace-seven only to get called by Mike Watson’s ace-jack. The board brought blanks and Lim busted in sixth place.
Tune in to watch the final table tomorrow as the final four places will get paid. The winner will get £119,600, second place gets £72,800, third gets £41,600 and the fourth-place finisher cashes for £26,600.

Alex Foxen Eliminated by Luc Greenwood
A few hands after the elimination of Cary Katz, another player hit the rail to drop Event #1 of the British Poker Open down to seven players.
Action started with Luc Greenwood raising to 16,000 from the button. Steve O’Dwyer folded his small blind, before Alex Foxen called in the big.
Foxen check-called a bet of 26,000 after the [Js6d3d] flop and check-called 60,000 after the [Ah] fell on the turn.
The [9s] completed the board and Foxen checked for a third time. Greenwood used a time extension before firing another bet, this time putting Foxen all-in.
After cutting down his close to 100,000 chip stack, Foxen used a time extension of his own and called before he had to use a second, only to see Greenwood table [As5d]. Foxen flashed [6s4s] and Greenwood’s turned pair turned the reigning GPI Player of the Year to the rail in 8th place.
The remaining seven players are scheduled to play until two more eliminations are registered.

Cary Katz Eliminated by Steve O’Dwyer
Steve O’Dwyer raised to 16,000 from early position and the action folded to Cary Katz who called from the small blind to create heads-up action.
The flop brought out [Kc6d5c] and both players checked.
On the turn the [Jd] hit and Katz lead out for 23,000, O’Dwyer called.
The river brought the [3c] and Katz moved all in for 73,000. O’Dwyer thought for 20 seconds and made the call.
“Jack high is good,” Katz said as he flipped over [AdTd] for a missed combo draw.
O’Dwyer showed [QsQh] and his pair was enough to bring the final table down to eight players.
