Sam Soverel Bags Chip Lead (Again), Searching for First BPO Win
Sam Soverel led Event #3 into the final table and after an off day the BPO front-runner finished Event #5 atop the leaderboard. That means Soverel will head into his third final table of the series on Saturday, looking to extend his British Poker Open and High Roller of the Year points lead.
Some of Soverel’s biggest competition for both races join the chip leader at the £25,000 No Limit Hold’em final table. Stephen Chidwick already has two cashes this week and a third could make things interesting heading into the second half of the series. Ali Imsirovic has yet to open his BPO account, but the Bosnian-American was in a similar position midway through the 2018 Poker Masters – a series he ended up dominating.
Germany’s Rainer Kempe and Spain’s Vincent Bosca round out the Event #5 lineup. While Kempe is well known in these circles, after winning the 2016 Super High Roller Bowl and multiple big buy-in events since, Bosca has just recently burst onto the scene.
He’ll need to spin if he wants to breakthrough at the British Poker Open, as he returns under the ten big blind mark.

Christoph Vogelsang Doubles Through Rainer Kempe
Action folded to Rainer Kempe in the small blind, and he moved all in for 810,000. Christoph Vogelsang called all in from the big blind for 180,000.

Back-To-Back for Imsirovic
Sam Soverel opened to 50,000 and Ali Imsirovic defended the big blind.
Imsirovic check-called 40,000 on the [QdJc4h] flop and both players checked the [8c] turn.
The [7s] completed the board and Imsirovic led for 110,000. The bet was a sizable portion of Imsirovic’s stack and after burning through a time extension Soverel elected to fold.
There was some chatter about what Soverel could beat between hands. When those talks subsided, Imsirovic put Soverel to another test.
He shoved the small blind as Soverel folded, Imsirovic said, “Same hand.” while turning over [AxQx].

Christoph Vogelsang Down to 150k
Stephen Chidwick opened the button to 65,000 and Christoph Vogelsang defended his big blind.

Rainer Kempe Doubles to Take Chip Lead
Vincent Bosca raised to 55,000 from the cutoff and Rainer shoved from the small blind for 410,000.
Bosca got a count and called with [9c9h]. He needed to hold to score the final elimination of Day 1, against Kempe’s [AdQs].
The flip went Kempe’s way on the [As6d3c] flop and he doubled after the board ran out with the [Tc] and [Kd].
When the dust settled, Bosca was below the chip average and Kempe had the chip lead.

Sam Soverel vs. Vicent Bosca
Sam Soverel limped the small blind and Vicent Bosca raised the big blind to 85,000. Soverel called, and then both players checked the [9dTs4c] flop.
The turn landed the [Td] and Soverel led out for a bet of what appeared to be 70,000, and Bosca quickly folded.

Vogelsang Goes Down, Kempe Chips Up
Both Germans returned from break at the bottom of the leaderboard and they’re heading in opposite directions.
First, Stephen Chidwick bet 55,000 on the river with the board reading [As3c2d4dJc]. Vogelsand, who was in the big blind, thought for a majority of his time bank and then called – only to see Chidwick table [Ad6d]. Top pair was good and one German fell down to a dozen bigs.
In one of the next hands, Rainer Kempe opened to 40,000 and Sam Soverel called in the small blind.
Soverel check-called 30,000 after the [AdQhJh] flop and then check-fold to Kempe’s 60,000 chip bet after the [Kd] fell on the turn.
