The Five Diamond World Poker Classic kicked off this week from the Bellagio Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, with a 13-event series of high roller buy-in tournaments.
The first event would see a field of 43 entrants create a prize pool of $430,000, and it would be Giuseppe Iadisernia emerging victorious to win his first career title in the United States after he defeated Brian Rast heads-up to win the $146,200 first-place prize.
Following a double elimination to put the final eight players at one table, it would be Rast holding a commanding chip lead. Chris Brewer’s attempt to close the gap on the PokerGO Tour presented by Guaranteed Rate leaderboard wouldn’t eventuate as he was eliminated on the money bubble by Rast. Sean Winter exited in seventh-place before David Szep and Punnat Punsri both exited in quick succession to put the event down to the final four players.
Those four players would battle for some time before Iadisernia took control when he double through Rast with set-over-set. As Iadisernia’s three opponents looked to navigate the payout jumps, the short stack switched between all three players before Ben Yu fell in fourth as he was flushed out by Iadisernia. Rok Gostisa was outdrawn by Iadisernia on the turn to exit in third-place, and on the first hand of heads-up play, both Iadisernia and Rast flopped trips. The last of the money entered on the river, and it would be Iadisernia’s superior kicker sending Rast to the rail.
Iadisernia now eclipses $2.1 million in lifetime tournament earnings and now his three tournament victories to his name. This is also his seventh biggest career payday, and his fifth qualifying result on the 2021 PokerGO Tour presented by Guaranteed Rate.
This tournament is part of the PokerGO Tour with players earning points based on the amount they cash for. The full PokerGO Tour schedule can be found here, and the current PokerGO Tour presented by Guaranteed Rate leaderboard is available here.
