Following a heads-up deal with Jason Koon, Justin Bonomo wins Event #2 $100,000 No-Limit Hold’em for $928,200 and retakes the all-time money lead from Bryn Kenney in the process. Bonomo headed into the heads-up match with 2,895,000 of the 3,800,000 chips in play after eliminating the last four players, and rather than play a $500,000 money bubble, the players agreed to an ICM Chop of the prize pool.
With the win, Bonomo passes 5th place finisher, Kenney on the all-time money list by $139,879. Bonomo finally reclaims the first-place spot with $57,047,264 after a couple of near-misses earlier this summer trying to retake the crown. After holding the chip lead for much of the day, Koon takes home $667,8000 for his second-place finish but could only watch as Bonomo decimated the field from six-handed on.
For the second consecutive tournament, Chris Brewer finished on the direct Money Bubble after running his ace-jack suited into the pocket queens of Bonomo. The next hand and the first hand of three-handed play Bonomo sent Dan Smith out the door in third place for $304,000 when his ace-deuce failed to improve against Bonomo’s pocket sevens.
