Leonard Maue Wins Bellagio High Roller Event #6: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em for $146,200
Leonard Maue came to the final table the short stack with just 210,000 but doubled up eight different times en-route to the $146,200 first-place prize and the event title in Bellagio High Roller Event #6 $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em.
Maue started the heads-up portion of the tournament with a four to one chip disadvantage against second-place finisher Sung Joo Hyun but managed to find four of his eight doubles during heads-up play, in a back and forth affair that lasted just over an hour.
Maue would take the chip lead for good when he flopped quad fives and got paid on the river when Hyun made the nut straight. Hyun would fall one hand later when his ace-five was bested by Maue’s ace-seven to finish in 2nd place for $94,600.
Nick Schulman followed up his fifth-place finish in Event #5 with a third-place finish in Event #6 for $64,500 after handing Maue his fourth double up of the final table when his king-ten could not complete his straight against Maue’s pocket kings. Schulman would officially fall one hand later when his king-five was bested by Hyun’s ace-three.
Jeremy Ausmus cashed for the first time during this high roller series finishing in fourth place when his ace-four ran into the ace-king of Schulman. Ausmus takes home $43,000 for his efforts.
Maue found his first elimination of the final table when he eliminated fellow countryman Dominik Nitsche in 5th place for $34,400 when Maue’s ace-queen cracked Nitsche’s pocket fours. Nitsche finds his second cash of the series after finishing in fourth place during Event #5.
Andrew “Lucky Chewy” Lichtenberger lived up to his nickname well at the final table, doubling his short stack on the money bubble three separate times before falling in sixth place for $25,800. Dan Shak was the first to fall in the money after he turned the nut straight against Hyun’s turned two pair. The river gave Hyun a full house, and Shak was sent out the door in seventh place for $21,500.
The money bubble itself lasted over three and a half hours, as there were eight consecutive doubles by the short stacks before Justin Bonomo moved all-in, holding ace-seven against Shak’s ace-queen. Bonomo flopped a flush draw but could not improve, thus denying the all-time money leader his third cash of the series.
