The opening event of the Super High Roller Series Europe kicked off from the Merit Royal Hotel Casino & Spa in North Cyprus with Event #1: $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha taking center stage with the 40-entrant field creating a $1 million prize pool.
Hungarian Laszlo Bujtas finished as the chip leader with 1,380,000 in chips, while his five fellow international opponents all sit with a below-average stack heading into Friday’s live-streamed final table on PokerGO’s YouTube channel. The final six players are guaranteed $50,000 in prize money, but all eyes are on the $360,000 first-place prize and title of Event #1 champion.
With Triton Cyprus now in the rear-view mirror, all the attention has been thrust on the 10-event Super High Roller Series Europe that returned to North Cyprus following a successful inaugural running in August 2021. The series includes a mix of Pot-Limit Omaha, No-Limit Hold’em, and Short Deck events, with Event #1 being the first of three Pot-Limit Omaha tournaments. PGT regulars including Stephen Chidwick, Mike Watson, Dylan Weisman, and Cary Katz were all in the mix along with a plethora of international players including Andras Nemeth, Jonas Kronwitter, and Joni Jouhkimainen.
Jouhkimainen and Triton Cyprus Event #3 winner Phil Ivey were eliminated before the final table was set and the money bubble was reached. Chips circulated between the final seven players before it would be Chris Brewer being eliminated on the money bubble when his overpair ran into Poker Masters Online champion Eelis Parssinen’s middle set. Brewer was unable to improve and was eliminated in seventh place as the final six players bagged for the night.
Bujtas leads the final six players into Friday’s live-streamed final table with 1,380,000 in chips ahead of Ali Imsirovic who is looking to extend his lead on top of the PGT leaderboard after taking top spot from Isaac Kempton following his cash in Triton Cyprus Event #2. Rounding out the final table include Tom Vogelsang who finished second in Triton Cyprus Event #2, 2021 PGT Championship winner Rok Gostisa, and Austrian Raphael Schreiner.
