After a grueling hour-long heads-up battle that saw the chip lead change hand three times, Shawn Daniels improved on his second-place finish in Event #1 to top a field of 65 entrants to win Venetian High Roller Event #2 $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em taking home the first-place prize of $175,500.
Daniels started the heads-up match holding a near 5 to 1 chip lead over second-place finisher Sergi Reixach. Still, Reixach battled back and eventually took over the chip lead late in level 16 when he picked off a river bluff from Daniels to move over four million chips.
Daniels retook the chip lead for good a few hands later when he turned a pair of aces and got paid on the river by Reixach. With his second-place finish, Reixach improved on his sixth-place finish from Event #1.
Joining Daniels and Reixach at the final table for the second night in a row was Shannon Shorr, who finished in eighth. Rounding out the final table were Seth Davies, who finished seventh. Vicent Bosca, who finished sixth, Cary Katz, who finished fifth, John Morgan, who improved on his ninth-place finish in Event #1, finished fourth, and Chris Brewer, who improved on his tenth place finish in Event #1, finished third.
Sean Winter finished in ninth, and John Riordan finished tenth to round out the players in the money.
There was about a 10-minute delay on the bubble when Manig Loeser was forced all-in from the big blind for his last 15,000 in chips. There was some confusion on just exactly how much Loeser could win with the big blind ante in play, and it was ruled that he would post the big blind first and was thus eligible to win the small blind.
The ruling proved moot as Loeser ultimately ran his jack-six into the ace-jack of Bosca, and the board ran out ace-high, sending Loeser to the rail to burst the bubble.
Other notables to finish just off the money included Joey Weissman, Nick Petrangelo, Brock Wilson, and Eric Worre.
