Rok Gostisa Wins Bellagio High Roller Event #9: $25,000 No-Limit Hold’em for $283,500
Rok Gostisa found himself heads-up with a three-to-one-chip lead and shot a high roller title for the second time in a week. Unlike Event #3, however, Gostisa found himself with all the chips at the end of the day to win $283,500 and the Event #9 title.
Alex Foxen gave a valiant effort in finishing second place for $157,500, taking the chip lead at one point, but an unfortunate river left the high stakes regular spiraling and right back into the hole. With the board reading [6h3d3c4h4d] and just 205,000 in the middle, Foxen used a time extension and bet 250,000. Gostisa used two time extensions of his own and raised to 800,000. Foxen went deep into the tank, used three of his final four time extensions, and tossed the [3h] face up into the muck.
“Horrible river,” Foxen said. “This guy is rivering boat over boat, I hope,” As he gestured toward Gostisa’s rail of Ali Imsirovic and Vikenty Shegal. Gostisa let out a slight laugh with a smirk, and the tournament was over a few hands later when Gostisa got the last of the chips in holding queen-high against Foxen’s jack-high. A queen on the turn sealed Foxen’s fate, and Gostisa takes home the title.
Jake Schindler was the 21st entrant and final entrant of Event #9, and Schindler quickly ran up his stack shortly before registration came to a close and eventually finished in third place for $84,000. Schindler nearly found himself on the outside looking in on the bubble but was able to double up on three separate occasions to stay alive and squeak into the money.
Sung Joo Hyun eliminated Vikenty Shegal in fifth place to take the chip lead into four-handed play, but the South Korean pro failed to get anything going after the knockout and slowly slid to the bottom on the chip counts.
With Schindler sitting on just 180,000 chips and the blinds at 10,000/20,000, Hyun found himself all-in for his last 270,000 holding ace-king against the queen-six of Gostisa. The flop fell clean, but when the turn and the river both landed, a queen Gostisa rivered a full house and denied Hyun his fourth cash of the series.
