The two chip leaders went at it in a pot that ended up propelling Anton Suarez into a big chip lead. Christian Rudolph in the cutoff with [9s8s] picked up caller Suarez on the button with [ksjs] preflop. He spiked a nine on the [9d4s2h] and check-called through the turned [6s] (24,000,000).
The river was a tournament-changer: the [qs]. Rudolph checked. Suarez put out a bet of 45,000,000 (that’s 45 players’ worth of starting stacks in this event). Rudolph just called, was shown the bad news, but survived to play on.

Set Over Set Doubles Clarke; His Rail Goes Wild
Local favourite James “Raggy” Clarke has doubled up playing anything but rags. He opened preflop with [acas] and picked up only one caller, Fredrik Andersson with [9d9h]. The Swede spiked a set on the [6s9sjd] flop and looked to eliminate Clarke, simply calling his 8,500,000 flop lead.
The turn: [Ah]. Clarke led for 10,000,000 and, understandably still hoping to get the chips in, Andersson took almost a minute before raising all in. He was, of course, snap-called. The river was the [qd] and the rail that’s built up around Clarke roared their approval.

Weijie Zheng Eliminated in 6th Place ($170,000)

It folded round to small blind Weijie Zheng, who opted to pull the trigger, all in for 38,400,000 with [7s5d]. Big blind Christoph Rudolph picked up [ah8d]; given the size of the shove he used a couple of timebank cards but did make the call in the end. By the turn, the board standing [6ctd9dac], Zheng was down to hoping for a three-outer river. The [3d] wasn’t it. Last year’s Irish Open champion Zheng picks up another big score, but exits in 6th.

Double for Romero

Weijie Zheng raised preflop from the hijack with [ksqh]. It folded round to big blind James Romero, with [asjd]. He moved all in for 35,000,000 total (around 18 big blinds) and Zheng called with barely a blink.
The board ran out [acqd4d8d8c], boosting Romero’s stack back to about its start-of-day level.

Jack Hardcastle Eliminated in 7th Place ($130,000)

An explosive flop was seen between under the gun opener Jack Hardcastle with [kdtd] and cutoff three-bettor Christian Rudolph with [qcqh]. That flop: [9h3djd]. With 27 million already in the pot, Hardcastle check-raised Rudolph’s 9,000,000 bet all in for 43,000,000 total. Rudolph called swiftly and Hardcastle’s tournament life rested on this close race. The turn and river bricked ([6cts]) and we lost Hardcastle in 7th.

Clarke Chipping Up
James Clarke is up over 50 million in chips after James Romero looked him up on the river with ace high, Clarke’s [4h6h] big blind defend having come good. Romero, the preflop raiser with [acqh], had missed a flop and turn on a [2d4cjh8d] board (18 million in the pot reflecting Romero’s called flop bet), and checked back at this point. On the [9c] river, Clarke led for 5,500,000 and Romero looked him up with ace high – no good vs. a pair of fours.

Maria Lampropoulos Eliminated in 8th Place ($100,000)

Jack Hardcastle opened in the cutoff to 3,500,000 with [9s9d]. Weijie Zheng passed his button, but Maria Lampropoulos looked down at [acq]; moments later her 19,100,000 stack was across the line in its entirety. Hardcastle made the call.
The [jhtd3d] flop gave Lampropoulos extra outs for the straight, but the [2h6d] turn and river were no help. She exits in 8th, picking up her third straight cash at MILLIONS UK events (winning the Main Event for £1,000,000 in 2017, cashing in 2018 in 53rd place).
