Six Remain After Day 1 of $50,000 Super High Roller, Dan Smith Leads
Dan Smith (pictured) finished atop the remaining six players in Event #33: $50,000 Super High Roller, with play concluding a little after 4 a.m. ET at Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida. Smith finished the day with 995,000 in chips, edging out Zhuang Ruan’s 940,000.
The other competitors joining Smith and Ruan in reaching Day 2 were Giuseppe Iadisernia (850,000), David Peters (315,000), Sean Perry (300,000), and Cary Katz (225,000). The six players will return on Friday, April 6, at 2 p.m. ET to play down to a winner, but one player will go home empty-handed as only five spots pay. Up top is $562,600.
The event drew 29 entries and generated a prize pool of $1.406 million. Smith rose to a big stack later on Day 2 when he scored two double ups with pocket tens. He first doubled through Lazaro Hernandez with pocket tens and then did it against Nick Petrangelo not too long after. Those doubles came when 10 players remained. From that point on, Smith did well behind the big stack and remained the leader for most of the remaining play on Day 1.
While the final six includes plenty of firepower and regular faces, it’s newcomer Ruan who has started to steal the show a bit. Ruan showed up to play Wednesday’s $50,000 Super High Roller but fell short of reaching the money. He’s just 20 years old and has shown that he’s capable of playing alongside some of the best in the world. Although Ruan isn’t able to play in such places as Las Vegas just yet due to his age, he’s in a good position to put himself on the high roller map with a finish in the money in this event.
As mentioned, the final six players will be back in action on Friday at 2 p.m. ET. Be sure to tune in to PokerGOnews.com for live coverage of the remainder of this event.
