Nick Schulman Wins Event #8 – $25,000 8-Game Mix ($270,000)
Nick Schulman won Event #8 – $25,000 8-game mix for $270,000, defeating a field of 20 entries and eventually defeating Brandon Adams heads up.
Schulman entered the day in second place with four remaining but managed to overtake Adams and eventually defeat him. Adams took home $150,000 for his second-place finish.
“It feels damn good,” Nick Schulman said with a big smile after taking the event down.
“Smooth,” is how Schulman described his experience in this tournament from the Day 1 grind through until his win today.
“There’s nothing like winning a tournament, regardless of the field size. It feels great and getting a clear first is exciting.”
There were two key hands that led to Schulman’s victory heads up. The first was a No-Limit Hold’em hand where Adams overbet the pot on the turn and got jammed on by Schulman who had a combo draw. Adams folded to the shove.
Then the two played a Razz hand to seventh and both made a nine-low. Schulman had a nine-perfect and got almost max value from Adams. It wasn’t too long after that that Schulman took down the Event #8 title and moved into third place in the overall U.S. Poker Open standings.
The action started today four-handed and Randy Ohel was the first player to be eliminated. He hit the rail in fourth place, which was good for the stone bubble. Ohel started with a pair of sixes and an ace in Stud Hi-Lo but eventually lost to two pair from Schulman.
Then Adams eliminated Chris Vitch to get heads up. Adams made a [9x7x6x3x2x] and check-raised Vitch putting him all in with one draw remaining. Vitch decided not to break his [9x8x7x5x3x] and was eliminated in third place, taking home $80,000.
The final hand wasn’t much of a decision after Adams got a little more than one big bet in with nine-high against Schulman who’s king-ten came out on top to seal the deal.
“I’m wound up for the $50k and $100k, those events speak for themselves. We’ll see how this $50k goes and then we’ll see if I’ll play the $100k. You gotta be pumped up to play with these wizards,” Schulman said, looking ahead at what’s still to come at the U.S. Poker Open.
Tournaments are a fun break from the cash game grind. I really enjoy tournaments.

Attention All Players: ARIA to Host $10k Satellite for U.S. Poker Open $100,000 Main Event
The 2019 U.S. Poker Open is rapidly approaching its epic finale with the $50,000 No Limit Holdem event kicking off today followed by the $100,000 No Limit Hold’em Main Event on Friday. Tonight at 8:00 pm local Las Vegas, ARIA is putting on a $10,000+$200 satellite for this event inside the PokerGO Studio, and here’s all you need to know.
Hosted inside the PokerGO Studio, this satellite will award one seat for every 10 entries and prize money that doesn’t result in a seat will be paid as one sum to the highest finisher that didn’t get a $100,000 seat. Seats won are non-transferrable, non-refundable and have no cash value.
Players that win their way into the U.S. Poker Open Event #10 $100,000 Main Event will be automatically registered and their chips will be in play from the start of the event at 2:00 pm PT on Friday.
This event will be played with a big-blind ante and players start with 125,000 chips. Unlimited re-entries are available through the first eight 20-minute levels after which there will be a 10-minute break. This event has a 20-second shot clock along with two 60-second time extensions.
